There was a milkmaid who went to town to sell her milk. She carried a pail of milk on her head and as she walked, she began to daydream about what she would do with the money she would get from selling the milk.
The Daydream
As the milkmaid walked towards the town, she began to daydream about her future. She thought to herself, “I will sell this milk for a good price and use the money to buy some eggs. From those eggs, I will hatch some chickens. The chickens will lay eggs, and I will sell the eggs for even more money. Then, I will buy a cow and have even more milk to sell. I will become so rich that I will never have to work again.”
The Dance
As she daydreamed, she began to skip and dance, imagining all the riches she would soon have. She became so lost in her fantasy that she didn’t notice the path beneath her feet.
The Spilled Milk
In her excitement, she forgot to watch where she was going and she tripped, spilling the pail of milk on the ground. All her dreams of wealth and prosperity came crashing down with the spilled milk.
The Moral
The moral of the story is that it is not wise to count your chickens before they hatch. It is important to focus on the present moment and not get carried away with unrealistic dreams and fantasies.
